Barena
I am really excited to announce the addition of artisanal Venetian menswear brand Barena to our offer.
Barena takes it’s name from a parochial term for a lagoon’s edge. Venice itself was once almost entirely lagoon and marshland, demanding a unique mixture of hunting, fishing and agriculture, and it’s from this unique history that Barena draws its inspiration.
The result is a range that is comfortable, unassuming and easy-wearing yet has an unmistakable craftsmanship about it. Their garments are hand-made using authentic construction techniques, and many of their pieces are reinterpretations of heritage designs from the area’s past.
They are perhaps best known for their jacketing range and that is what we have focussed on for this inaugural collection.
They utilise incredibly soft construction for pieces that feel as soft and easy-wearing as a cardigan, whilst still retaining the smartness of a structured jacket.
Knitted cottons and wools play a key role in their fabrication, as does cotton drill and linen, giving the garments an expressive emphasis on texture.
This unique approach to design and construction makes Barena a perfect compliment to our current Crane Brothers offer. The refined and artisanal approach to clothing perfectly at home with both informal tailoring or casualwear and epitomises the Antipodean attitude of making the informal feel special.
