Blowing My Own Horn
Many of you who read this will know that over the last ten years I have accumulated a sizeable collection of Taxidermy.
Much of it has hung in our Wellington and Auckland stores with the odd piece taking pride of place in my office (none at home as my Art Friend doesn't like dead things in the house).
This week I have had every single piece removed from the walls in anticipation of selling the whole lot at Art and Object in an up coming auction.
My motivation was pretty simple, although it is still a look I love it felt like a good time to move on aesthetically.
When the stores were first decorated (over a decade ago) the taxidermy felt new and fresh, very few people were doing it and it became a real signature for us.
Over the next 6 weeks we are putting the finishing touches on a re fit for our Flagship Auckland store (sans horn) occuring over Easter.
It will reflect the direction the brand is taking and be in line with the recent fit out of our Sydney site that featured a large work by Contemporary New Zealand artist Richard Orjis.
So it's bye bye old dead things and hello new and alive things.
