Company Men
I went to Company Men at the weekend. I am not a big fan of Ben Affleck but the guy can act. My favourite character was played by Tommy Lee Jones who is a great actor.
A distinct lack of American Flags makes this a palatable movie that could easily have been tipped over the edge by being too "patriotic". There was a token black man whose inclusion seemed slightly incongruous to the whole thing and this annoyed me.
The story is a very real one and the problems America faces are portrayed well. There is a sense of hopelessness and excess that is clear throughout the film.
I can't help but feel that this could have been a lot better and that it has been slightly sanitised. For me it needed to be grittier, possibly a more dramatic death, some more graphic sex scenes and generally more swearing and misery.
Then it would have been a great movie.
