Crane Brothers Design Award
After 40 years in the fashion industry, including 25 at the helm of Crane Brothers, one lesson I’ve learned is that we rarely take the time to pause and celebrate our successes. Instead, we’re often focused on “what’s next” or analysing “what happened.”
However, as we reach this juncture and take a moment to reflect. I am excited to announce a new chapter in our journey: a strategic partnership with The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi.
Together, we are launching the Crane Brothers Design Award, which will be part of the Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi Laureate Awards.
My motivation to establish this award comes from a deeply personal place. I was fortunate enough to be raised in a home that encouraged artistic freedom and the power of creative thought, in a small town that discouraged it in equal measure. I believe that now, more than ever, original ideas and the thought processes that shape them need to be protected and nurtured for future generations - more on that news soon.
This 10-year initiative will recognise outstanding design across multiple disciplines, awarding a biennial prize of $30,000. The award not only reflects our deep-rooted appreciation for art and design but also reinforces our commitment to nurturing and elevating creativity within New Zealand’s cultural fabric.
The inaugural recipient of the Crane Brothers Design Award will be announced at a special awards ceremony on October 18, 2024.
