Donald Sutherland
by Murray Crane
Movies starring Donald Sutherland are among some of my all time favourites. Without giving away my age, the seventies and early eighties saw him in some of his most best roles ( and outfits) featuring on our newly acquired Colour TV screen.
In Eye of the Needle, Sutherland's portrayal of a German spy during World War II was a chilling glimpse into the ruthless world of espionage. Similarly, The Dirty Dozen found him bringing an element of dark humour and menace to his turn as a convict-turned-soldier.
MASH saw him delivering a comedic yet morally complex performance as the irreverent Hawkeye Pierce. All great roles and just a handful of his extensive filmography that have been a great source of wardrobe inspiration over the years.
