Fashion Business - Milano Unica
by Murray Crane
Milano Unica is the main international trade show for high-end textiles and accessories. Every 6 months the very best suppliers to the Fashion Industry congregate to showcase new designs and developments. This time 389 exhibitor companies, (324 were Italian), presented their A/W 2023/2024 collections of high-end textiles and accessories for menswear, womenswear and kidswear.
The general “mood” in the industry is one of quiet optimism. But like business everywhere, there is real pressure on supply chain logistics and costs, which are set to increase by as much as 20% over the next 12 months. Luxury raw materials such as Cashmere and Wool are a challenge to access, which is ironic given how much our farmers are currently receiving for their wool.
For me, as a business owner, it is an exciting and efficient way to do business; in a relatively short period of time; it enables me to meet with all our established suppliers as well as discovering new ones. We are writing in excess of €1,000,000 in business every 6-12 months with our European partners and suppliers. After 30 years of doing so, it remains a very intense and demanding time as a buyer, but I am grateful for the strong and exclusive supply agreements we hold and partnerships we have developed.
