How To Make A Negroni
To say that the negroni is having a moment is something of an understatement (see also: WM Brown’s Matt Hranek) - but then again, that’s been true for years, decades even. Rich, complex and slightly bitter (much like those who drink it perhaps), the cocktail is now over a century old and remains as complex and versatile as ever, perfect for sipping in the sun or nursing into the wee hours at a favourite haunt.
It’s also damnably easy to make - three ingredients and citrus to finish. The trick is in the ingredients - when each makes up a third of the drink, you really do want to use the best. We make ours with spirits from Hastings Distillers - their amazing, bio-dynamic spirits add incredible lightness and subtlety to this full-bodied drink.
THE NEGRONI
- 30ml gin - we use East Block 200 Gin
- 30ml bitter orange aperitif - we use L’Opera
- 30ml sweet vermouth
- Orange twist (for garnish)
Method:
Stir the gin, bitter orange, and sweet vermouth in a chilled, ice-filled mixing glass, then strain into a lowball glass filled with large ice cubes (or one big cube, if you have the means!). Finish with a twist of orange. Enjoy with company and a good record.
