Linen & Seersucker: A Summer Tailoring Story
When it comes to dressing for spring and summer, especially if you’ve got something coming up that requires a touch of panache, tailoring can sometimes present a bit of a challenge. Keeping things stylish, whilst keeping yourself comfortable, is a bit of a balancing act - however the two key cloths from our new tailoring offer, linen and seersucker, are uniquely suited to the job.
When it comes to lightness, linen is a cloth without peer. Linen’s hollow, porous fibre, derived from flax, is naturally absorbent, making it perfect for hot, humid weather of the kind that New Zealand sees plenty of during the warmer months. It’s remarkably tough stuff as well, holding up well to steady wear, and is also biodegradable and exceedingly sustainable to produce.
Linen does wrinkle - this is because the cloth doesn’t have the natural stretch to it of a wool and so has a tendency to crease slightly more. This naturally makes it a more relaxed, less formal choice - perfect for the season. It also means that unlike wool it does not bag or deform with wear, meaning that whilst it may crinkle around the elbows in time, it will also retain it’s fundamental shape exceptionally well. A linen jacket looks best paired with trousers in a different material - denim, a drill cotton trouser or a five pocket pant all make excellent choices. Our new linen suits, meanwhile, are perfect for smart occasions like summer weddings, and can be easily split and worn as separates.
