Renter Vs Ranter
I found myself watching a new season show called Renters on TV2 last night and I have to say it left me feeling demoralized and dirty; a bit like the people being filmed I suppose.
This would have to be one of the most depressing shows I have ever had the misfortune of watching, the amusement factor diminished in the first minute.
Renters is reality TV at its worse, do we really have a morbid fascination with Benefit dependent, KFC chewing dog owners who choose to live in their own filth and sleep late whilst having to be told not to urinate on their own fences?
Yes I had a choice not to watch (I won’t be from now on) but the show left me shaking my head from a cocktail of bemusement, shame and disgust.
What’s next? A reality show about an extended family that put their kids in the dryer or shakes them to death?
It seems we are glamourizing the social incompetence of our society. All these shows do is make us either want to put our heads in the sand and pretend the problem doesn’t exist or accept it as normal.
