Sly and the Family Stone
I finally paid Tony Sly a visit at his new eponymous New Market store last week.
Tony has been working with clay since 1980 with studios in Hamilton before moving to Raglan in 2002.
His scratch made domestic pottery and stoneware are all handmade in small batches.
Clay is sourced throughout New Zealand, from as far South as Dunedin (Terracotta) and everything is glazed using natural oxides before being fired.
Tony's palette is inspired by his surroundings - Blue, Green and a Chalky Bone draw on Water and the Land. This makes it perfect in pretty much any domestic setting.
The pieces are robust, utilitarian and honest but feel very contemporary.
