The Engine Room
With new restaurants opening left, right and centre it is easy to forget that great restaurants don't open everyday and that it takes long hours of hard work, passion and dedication. I was reminded of that last night and it's why Engine Room consistently rates as a favourite for me.
They have adopted the 'not broken so don't fix it' approach to some of their dishes. Their schnitzel and profiteroles remain exceptional and they don't seem overly fussed that they still serve fries (although I wasn't allowed them) and even leave salt and pepper on the table.
They always remember my Art Friend is vegetarian, even when I always forget to tell them when I book.
Fantastic wine list (Pyramid Valley, Bell Hill, Amisfield, Escarpment) compliments great service that is not too fussy but a little bit fancy, just how a restaurant should be.
