Webbs Collectors Car Auction
by Murray Crane
Webbs Collectors Car Auction is set to take place soon, featuring an enthralling selection of vehicles for auction at their Mount Eden Gallery. Among the highlights are a 1993 Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 and a 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I Fixed Head Coupé, which is a personal favorite.
The auction also offers some intriguing lots, including a 1963 Amphicar and a 1958 BMW Isetta, also known as the bubble car. The BMW Isetta holds the distinction of being the world's first mass-produced car to achieve an impressive fuel consumption of 3 L/100 km, or approximately 78 miles per gallon.
The Amphicar, introduced at the 1961 New York Auto Show, derives its name from the combination of "amphibious" and "car," reflecting its ability to operate on both land and water.
It's interesting to consider that when these cars were designed and manufactured, the idea of living in space and driving flying cars seemed like a plausible reality.
